About

Jason Peterson

I’m Jason Peterson, a self-taught software developer with nearly twenty years of experience. I currently work at FilmLight, helping developers build software for the film and post-production industry. Before that, I spent years working on projects touching Disney, Warner Brothers, and Netflix.

I came to programming from an English literature background — no CS degree, just MOOCs, curiosity, and a compulsion to build things. That unconventional path made me more experimental than most, and it’s why I gravitate toward new tools before the consensus forms around them.

Right now, I’m focused on practical applications of generative AI. Not the hype, not the hand-waving — the actual work of using tools like Claude, image generation, and agentic coding to build real things with real results and real costs attached.

I publish one deep, project-based article each week. If you write code, you’ll find tutorials you can follow step by step. If you don’t, you’ll still find ideas you can put to work.

Don’t prompt and pray. Build deliberately.

Previously

I’ve previously written on Substack and Dev.to. The archives live there; the new work lives here.
